These are the general properties of Tamil tough constructions:
- Has both expletive and moved variants of tough constructions - Main indicators: case morphology & matrix verb agreement
- Has two strategies of realizing embedded clause: one form looks like a typical infinitive verb, the other form has an overtly nominalized embedded verb with dative case.
- The direct object gap can be in a clause embedded under a convince-type verb for both strategies.
- Variant with movement seems to be compatible with subject-oriented adverbials whereas expletive variant is not for both strategies.
- Allows dative PP between matrix predicate and embedded clause for both strategies.
- Has verbal tough predicate constructions with both strategies.
